Kindergartener's Writers' Workshop

Broad Brook School Kindergarten Teacher, Amy Lupoli, led the Kindergarten team in revising their Writers' Workshop to increase student achievement. The Kindergarten teachers attended a Writers' Workshop conference presented by Julie Lay in 2007 and then implemented a procedure for tracking and assessing student growth over time. Students now have age-appropriate references and a self-assessment to use during Writers' Workshop. Broad Brook School Kindergarten Teacher, Amy Lupoli, noted that by incorporating writing into every facet of their school day Kindergarten students increased their scores on the Kindergarten writing prompt rubric.

Electric Guitar vs. Acoustic Guitar

East Windsor Middle School Music Teacher, C. Tracie Shutter, introduced Sixth and Seventh grade students to playing the electric guitar. Previously students only had access to an acoustic guitar. By incorporating the electric guitar, students were motivated by hearing how their playing sounds like the music they listen to on the radio. Ms. Shutter noted that students were more motivated to reach a higher level of learning on acoustic guitar in order to play the electric guitar. Multiple students started taking private guitar lessons to continue learning how to play the electric guitar.
