Board Structure: The EWEF is governed by a volunteer board of directors and officers who oversee the Foundation's operation.
The membership of the board and its volunteers includes business persons, parents, senior citizens, community leaders and is open to the community. Ex-officio board members include the Superintendent of Schools and an appointee of the First Selectman. The Foundation exists as a non-political entity independent of both the Board of Education and the town government. The Foundation's work may supplement current Board of Education priorities but is not a substitute for them.
Incorporated in May 2006 the mission of the East Windsor Education Foundation is to provide a partnership with the East Windsor community to financially support innovative educational opportunities and programs with the East Windsor Public Schools. The East Windsor Education Foundation will identify worthwhile educational projects through a grant process.
Since 1978. over 3,000 communities across the country have established education foundations with similar missions. From Maine to California they have raised millions of dollars to enrich the curriculum, improve teacher education and create partners-in-education projects. There are currently 77 established education foundations in Connecticut with more in the organizing process.
